English Literal Equivalent: Too many cooks spoil the dish of boiled blood and meat.
English Meaning: Too many leaders tend to confuse the people. Another way to put it is to say “Too many cooks spoil the broth”.
Context: When a beast is being slaughtered blood is collected into a dish or some other container as it comes out of the animal. The blood is then mixed with certain parts of flesh and boiled. This boiled mixture is called “ububende”. The cooking of this dish is usually done by boys or men. So it is possible to have all the boys or men wanting to show their knowledge by dictating how the cooking should be done. In such cases arguments may come up delaying the process leading to the dish being spoiled altogether.
Application: In tasks that are executed by teams and where there is no outright leader, most often than not, there is no clear allocation of duties. As such it is possible to have more than one person claiming to have knowledge of how a certain duty is performed. Usually none of the “knowledgeable” individual is willing to accept any other people’s ideas or contributions as each one of them believe theirs is the best way of performing the task. The individuals will end up arguing among themselves resulting in loss of time and mixing incompatible ideas which leads to a substandard work performance or product.
